Every year on 11 July, Japan celebrates National Ramen Day, recognising one of the country's most iconic and loved dishes.
Established by the Japan Ramen Association in 2017, the date was chosen because 11 resembles a pair of chopsticks and 7 resembles a traditional ramen spoon, known as a renge. The day also commemorates the birthday of Tokugawa Mitsukuni, who is believed to have been one of the first Japanese people to enjoy ramen.
